
Prof. Andrzej Grodzicki passed away
It is with deep sadness that we announce that on March 25th, 2024 prof. dr hab. Andrzej Grodzicki died at the age of 89.
A long-time employee of the Institute of Geological Sciences of the University of Wrocław.
Geologist, petrologist and mineralogist, researcher of clastic rocks and heavy minerals, authority in the field of mineralogy of alluvial gold accumulations and old gold mining in Lower Silesia. Author and co-author of over 120 scientific papers, designer and patent author of devices for the separation and beneficiations of minerals. Long-time manager of the UWr Henryk Teisseyre Geological Museum, creator and head of the Mineral Separation and Beneficiation Laboratory at the UWr Institute of Geological Sciences. A long-time supervisor of the Student Scientific Associations of Geologists, a liked and respected academic teacher. Member of numerous committees and scientific associations, founding member of the Polish Gemological Association. Initiator of cooperation with local governments of Lower Silesia, Honorary Citizen of Złotoryja. He has been awarded many times for his comprehensive scientific and teaching activities with honours and medals, as well as awards from the Rector of the University of Wrocław and the Minister of Science and Higher Education. Known in the academic community for his impressive historical knowledge about Lower Silesia, Wrocław, and the University, author of occasional poems and anecdotes.
An outstanding and modest man, faithful to the principles of truth and honesty, has passed away.

Funeral ceremonies will take place on Tuesday, April 2th, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in the church under the invocation of Saint John the Baptist in Lubraniec.
