Prof. Szczęk is a member of the International Scientific Council of the Leibniz Institute for the German Language in Mannheim!

On the basis of a decision of the Scientific Council of the Leibniz Institute for the German Language in Mannheim, prof. dr hab. Joanna Szczęk has been appointed as a member of the International Scientific Council of the Leibniz Institute for the German Language.

The statutory function of the International Scientific Council is to maintain contacts with other universities in the field of research and, in particular, to have scientific exchanges with colleagues from abroad. The members of the International Scientific Council should primarily come from non-German-speaking countries and be active in scientific circulation and academic teaching. The members are appointed by the Institute’s Scientific Council on the recommendation of the Executive Board.

Prof. dr hab. Joanna Szczęk is a graduate of the Institute of German Studies at the University of Wrocław (2000). She was awarded the degree of Doctor of Humanities in linguistics in 2004, and the degree of Habilitation in 2015, and the academic title of Professor of Humanities in the discipline of linguistics in 2022 by the decision of the President of the Republic of Poland of 21 November 2022.

Since 2004, prof. dr hab. Joanna Szczęk has been working at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Wrocław, at the Institute of German Studies, where she has been the head of the Department of Applied Linguistics since 2013. From 2004 to 2010, she was also employed as a lecturer at the Angelus Silesius State Higher Vocational School (PWSZ) in Wałbrzych, where she served as director of the Foreign Languages Institute from 2004 to 2007. She is a member of scientific associations and societies: SGP, MGV, PTLS, PTN and Europhras. She has served as vice-president since 2018 and as president of the Central European Germanist Association (Mitteleuropäischer Germanistenverband) since September 2022. In addition, she is a member of the editorial committees of the journals Linguistische Treffen in Wrocław and Zeitschrift für Mitteleuropäische Germanistik, and was secretary of the journal Germanica Wratislaviensia from 2009 to 2018. She is also co-founder and editor of the international academic publishing series: Studia Phraseologica et Paroemiologica, Studia Culinaria Interdisziplinaris, Doktorandenforum. Auslandsgermanistik, Fields of Linguistics.
