Prof. dr hab. Lucjan Sobczyk passed away
It is with deep regret that we announce that on June 14, 2023, Prof. dr hab. Lucjan Sobczyk died at the age of 95.
Full professor of the University of Wrocław, Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Wrocław and Leningrad, co-founder of university chemistry in Wrocław, Vice-Rector of the University of Wrocław, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, full member of Polish Academy of Sciences, President of the Polish Chemical Society, chairman of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Low Temperature and Structural Research, founder of the Department of Dielectric and Structural Chemistry, founder of the Department of Dielectric and Structure Organic Compounds.
Professor Lucjan Sobczyk was an outstanding scholar, the founder of the Wrocław and Polish School of Hydrogen Bonding, an international authority in the field of intermolecular interactions, an organiser of many conferences, and a man of great kindness. He worked scientifically until the last day of his life.
With the passing of professor Lucjan Sobczyk, Polish science suffers an irreparable loss, the Faculty of Chemistry loses its master, teacher, friend, and educator of several generations of physical chemists.
A funeral Mass will be held at the Parish Church on ul. Bujwida 51 on Friday, June 23, 2023, at 10:00 am, after which the ashes will be escorted to eternal rest.
