Prof. Jorge A. R. Navarro with an open lecture at the Faculty of Chemistry
Prof. Jorge Andres Rodriguez Navarro from the University of Granada will be a guest of the Faculty of Chemistry as part of the visiting professors (short visits) programme, part of the Excellence Initiative – Research University programme. Our guest will give an open lecture on 30 January on Metal-organic assemblies for capture and detoxification of harmful molecules.
The aim of the visiting professors programme is to intensify the research and teaching activities of the University of Wrocław by inviting internationally renowned foreign scholars (see recruitment information).

Jorge A. R. Navarro (Hirsch, h = 50; >9700 citations) has been Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Granada since 2010. He has made seminal contributions in the field of synthesis and applications of discrete and extended metal-organic architectures with biomedical and environmental applications, including seminal work on application of MOFs for the capture and catalytic degradation of chemical warfare agents. These results have been published in prestigious international journals: 151 research papers in the major scientific journals devoted to inorganic and materials chemistry (i.e. Nature (1), Science (1), Nat. Comm. (1), Chem. Soc. Rev. (1), Chem (2), Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. (5), J. Am. Chem. Soc. (13), Adv. Mater. (1), Adv. Funct. Mater. (1), etc. and book chapters. The high visibility of his research has given rise to invitations to give conferences and seminars at relevant scientific meetings (e.g. MRS2023, EUROMOF2021, ICODAppEng-2019, ACS2015) and research centers (Belgium, France, Korea, Netherlands Switzerland, UK, USA, etc.). He has chaired highly relevant conferences: 5th EuroMOF (Granada, 2023, 750 participants); XXXVIII general meeting of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (Granada 2022 >1600 participants).

He has supervised 16 PhDs and > 20 early/senior stage scientists (from Algeria, China, Cuba, Egypt, Germany, Iran, Italy, Portugal, Poland, USA).
In the last 5 years he has participated as a PI in 17 research projects as well as in 6 contracts with public and private entities (Spanish Ministry of Defense, BASF, AIMPLAS, Howa-Tramico, Bioplast). He has been a member of the Advisory Board of NovoMOF company since 2019, and the co-founder of a spin-off company Porous materials in action.
