Prof. Stanisław Bereś’s birthday plane tree

On 4 May 2022, right by the Oder River next to the Institute of Journalism and Social Communication, we unveiled a jubilee sycamore named after an outstanding scientist, literary critic, translator, and poet, for most of his professional life associated with our university. Stanisław Bereś (b. 1950) – literary historian, critic, essayist, poet and translator; professor at the Institute of Journalism and Social Communication of University of Wrocław. In 1979-1987, lectured at the Public Academy of Theatre; 1987-1993 at Université Charles-de-Gaulle Lille 3. Editor of Telewizyjne Wiadomości Literackie and the cultural magazine Latarnik; member of the jury for the Nike Literary Award and the Angelus Central European Literary Award; editor-in-chief of the Biblioteka Narodowa series. Author of documentary films: Biały brat Papuasów, Ciało kamienia, Wydaj to sam. He has published 27 books, devoted to, among others: Stanisław Lem, Tadeusz Konwicki, Tadeusz Gajcy, Andrzej Sapkowski, Rafał Wojaczek.
