Abstract
This talk considers party politics in today’s European democracies by revisiting debates from the 1970s which predicted “party decline” and “party failure”. Understanding what has changed over the past half century gives clues about the possibilities and limits of parties’ future adaptations.

Susan E. Scarrow jest profesorką nauk politycznych na Uniwersytecie w Houston, USA. Jej badania i dydaktyka akademicka koncentrują się na analizie porównawczej partii politycznych i zjawisku reprezentacji w demokracjach parlamentarnych. Publikuje w najlepszych czasopismach politologicznych na świecie: European Journal of Political Research; Party Politics; Journal of Elections, Public Opinion and Parties; Electoral Studies; West European Politics. Jest autorką książek wydanych przez Oxford University Press: Beyond Party Members oraz Organizing Political Parties: Representation, Participation, and Power. Współtworzy światową bazę danych o partiach politycznych, obejmującą niemal 200 partii z ponad 50 krajów.
