Ranking methodology

University disciplines were assessed across five areas: teaching, research environment (including indicators related to reputation, income allocated to the discipline and productivity), research quality (publications and citations), international outlook (internationalisation of staff, students and research collaboration), and industry (income from knowledge transfer to industry and patents).

Each area consisted of several indicators, with a total of 18 indicators, each assigned a specific percentage weight influencing the overall score. The weightings varied depending on the discipline.

The data used to compile the ranking are drawn from several sources: surveys completed by higher education institutions, the Scopus bibliographic database (publications and citations), and reputation surveys conducted by Times Higher Education among academics worldwide.

The full ranking results are available on the website.
