Volume XI – Cognition, science, beauty

The volume includes the lectures and introductions to discussions presented at the Studium Generale seminar in the academic year 2005/2006. This volume is special because the preparation was a great challenge for the Scientific Council of the Studium, as it was the first volume that was published after prof. Jan Mozrzymas, the founder of Studium Generale, passed away. Volume XI of the Studium Generale Universitatis Wratislaviensis series is dedicated to his memory.

Prof. Jan Mozrzymas was the first to formulate the initial foundations of the axiom and research paradigm for the research carried out as part of the Studium Generale. He established the initial research directions and organizational forms for the activities of the Studium. His personality and charisma attracted people irresistibly and they, thanks to the professor, have found a common language that enables effective communication between chemists and philosophers, political scientists and musicians. This language breaks down the barriers separating the narrow specializations of scientific disciplines. Prof. Jan Mozrzymas created the Studium Generale, which will be associated with his name forever, as well as with his teachings and with his message.

The Scientific Council of the volume tried to take this message into account. Therefore the papers presented in the academic year 2005/2006 were divided into three groups: cognition, science, and beauty, perceiving in this sequence of texts a deeper order. There must be a specific research method, regardless of what is the object and field of research. The results of this research are objectified in the sciences. If, on the other hand, we go beyond the pragmatic aspect of all sciences, regardless of whether they are humanities generally called natural sciences, they will reveal to us the beauty, whether explicit or hidden, but always present in the perfect structure of the cosmos.
