University of Wrocław in the 34th Grand Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity
The University of Wrocław is joining the Grand Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP). The 34th edition is held under the slogan “Healthy tummies for our children”. This is a unique opportunity to join forces and support the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases in the youngest patients, thereby providing real help to paediatric gastroenterology wards across Poland.
We invite you to take part in charity auctions on the Allegro platform, prepared thanks to the involvement of the academic community. This year, items and unique experiences for auction have been donated, among others, by the Rector, prof. Robert Olkiewicz, the University Library and the Botanical Garden.
Our auctions are available on the Wrocław Staff account, because we are all playing together for a shared cause. Every złoty raised matters and contributes to improving the quality of treatment for the youngest patients. We encourage you to participate actively, share information about the auctions and help us build good together.

Indywidualne oprowadzanie po Pracowni Konserwacji Zbiorów Specjalnych BUWr
Step into a place where time seems to have stopped between the pages of old books. The Library of the University of Wrocław once again invites you to take part in a unique event organised as part of the 34th Grand Finale. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to support the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases in the youngest patients.
This is a rare opportunity to enter a space normally closed to the public – the Special Collection Conservation Unit – and discover a world in which the past comes alive in the hands of conservators. The auction winner, together with up to five invited guests, will take part in an individual guided tour of the Studio, where the most valuable books are restored with passion and precision.
Curators from the Manuscripts Department will present several of the Library’s greatest treasures – manuscripts of exceptional historical and cultural value. Participants will have the chance to see medieval codices, prayer books, theological works and volumes written by scholars of past centuries. For those interested, a workshop component is also planned: an introduction to Latin. Under the guidance of the curators, participants will step into the role of medieval scribes and jointly attempt to read, translate and interpret a selected page of a Latin codex. This is a unique opportunity to combine knowledge of conservation with close contact with historical manuscripts and to travel back in time to an era when every word was created with care and the book itself was a work of art.
Wspólna podróż w czasie, czyli warsztaty paleontologiczne dla całej rodziny
A voucher for activities for up to 12 participants – approximately 1.5 hours of a fascinating adventure. We invite you to exceptional family palaeontology workshops at the Geological Museum, where the history of the Earth comes alive before your eyes. It is not only great fun, but also a true scientific adventure, ideal for both children and adults curious about the stories written in stone.
During the workshops, each participant will independently make three plaster casts of fossils based on moulds prepared from real museum specimens. The finished casts can be taken home together with identification cards – a wonderful souvenir and perhaps the beginning of your own collection.
There will also be time to talk with museum staff. The workshops are led by passionate geologists, who adapt the content to the age and interests of the group. How are fossils formed? What does a geologist have in common with a detective? Did all dinosaurs become extinct? What grew in Carboniferous forests? Which animal lost thousands of teeth during its lifetime?
Arkusz filatelistyczny – pamiątka z 80-lecia Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego
The Rector of the University of Wrocław, prof. Robert Olkiewicz, has donated a unique commemorative stamp sheet dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Polish University of Wrocław. Its value is enhanced by the fact that it was designed by our own scholar, prof. Piotr Krzysztof Marszałek, whose passion is stamp design. He has created numerous designs related to university events, research initiatives and the restoration of historic university buildings. The latest series, issued to mark the 80th anniversary, consists of nine stamps, each presenting a different building and field of academic activity: Collegium Philologicum, Collegium Biotechnologicum, Collegium Astronomicum, Collegium Anthropologicum, Collegium Maximum, Collegium Archaeologicum, Collegium Iuridicum, Collegium Pedagogicum and the Bibliotheca Principalis. During the Senate meeting on 19 November 2025, senators received commemorative copies of this stamp sheet.
Nagrodzona książka prof. Urszuli Glensk „Pinezka” z autografem
The publication is a double winner of the 29th edition of the prestigious Grand Press 2025 competition: it received the title of Reportage Book of the Year (ex aequo with Heweliusz by Adam Zadworny) and the Audience Award, gaining recognition from both the jury and readers. The book also reached the final five of the competition. In autumn 2021, Professor Urszula Glensk travelled to the Polish-Belarusian border, where for a year she observed the escalating migration crisis. The result is a moving, multi-layered narrative based on volunteers’ accounts, conversations with local residents and the author’s personal observations. Pinezka portrays rising tensions, the loss of trust in authorities, motivations for helping others and the reactions of local communities and border guards towards the arrival of “strangers”. It is a powerful record of tragic events whose gravity at times goes beyond words.
Professor Urszula Glensk is a distinguished Polish literary scholar, critic and researcher of documentary literature, and a lecturer at the University of Wrocław. She is the author of many acclaimed books, including Historia słabych. Reportaż i życie w Dwudziestoleciu (1918–1939), which received the Polityka Historical Award, and Hirszfeldowie. Zrozumieć krew, nominated for the Nike Literary Award.
