Rector’s meeting with ministerial scholarship holders
On Thursday, Rector prof. Robert Olkiewicz met with the Minister of Science and Higher Education’s scholarship holders: dr Paweł Kaczmarski-Koronkiewicz and dr Michał Marczenko, to discuss their academic plans and more.
Two young researchers from our university are among the most talented scholars to receive ministerial scholarships this year. In June, Minister Marcin Kulasek announced the results of the 20th edition of the competition for outstanding young researchers. A total of 228 people were awarded scholarships, including 34 doctoral students, representing 53 academic and artistic disciplines. Among the doctoral researchers were also two scholars from the University of Wrocław: dr Magdalena Gibiec and dr Katarzyna Parchimowicz.
The recipients will receive support of PLN 5,390 per month for a period of three years. In total, the Ministry has allocated more than PLN 44 million for this purpose. Rector prof. Robert Olkiewicz, together with prof. Michał Tomczak, Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy and prof. Marcin Cieński, Dean of the Faculty of Letters, encouraged the young scholars to use this time not only for research and academic travel, but above all for preparing their habilitation.
Dr Paweł Kaczmarski-Koronkiewicz is a literary scholar specialising in modern and contemporary Polish poetry, the problem of intention in literary studies, historical materialism, and intersections between literary theory and game studies.
Dr Michał Marczenko is a physicist whose research lies at the interface of high-energy physics and astrophysics. His work focuses on constructing and analysing theoretical models that are key to understanding macroscopic objects such as neutron stars, as well as the micro-worlds created in particle accelerator laboratories. He investigates phase transitions in nuclear matter under extreme conditions, and how its properties affect observable signals in experiments and astronomical observations. In doing so, he bridges particle theory, astrophysics and nuclear physics.
