“Science is brave!” – DFN 2025

The 28th edition of the Lower Silesian Science Festival, the largest popular science event in the country, is about to begin. This year’s Festival will take place in Wrocław between 13–20 September, followed by regional events across Lower Silesia. As always, researchers from the University of Wrocław have prepared a wide range of attractions for science enthusiasts, both young and grown-up. The full programme of DFN 2025 can be found on the Festival’s website.

The Lower Silesian Science Festival is a popular science event held every year in September and October, organised by Wrocław’s universities, institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences and non-academic organisations. It is addressed to everyone interested in science, culture, art and the fascinating phenomena of the world around us. The organisers want science to stop being perceived as hermetic, inaccessible and incomprehensible. For the official opening on 13 September, researchers are preparing the Science Village – more than 30 interactive stands showcasing the mysteries of science. Altogether, the Festival will feature over 1,800 events, making it the largest initiative of its kind in Poland.

The Science Village will be open on 13 September from 10:00 until 15:00. This year it will take place at the Pontifical Faculty of Theology, Plac Katedralny 1A, Ostrów Tumski – and everyone eager to explore knowledge in a simple and engaging way is warmly invited to attend.

Highlights of this year’s Science Village include:

  • a demonstration of the Scorpio Mars rover
  • a presentation of Tesla vehicles
  • the secrets of organ transplantation
  • the famous Large Intestine exhibit, which visitors can walk through (from the right end!)
  • stands devoted to health prevention and medical research
  • a showcase of tactical simulators of the Polish Armed Forces

The regional stage of the Festival will begin on 22 September and continue until 31 October, with events taking place in Legnica, Głogów, Ząbkowice Śląskie, Strzelin, Bolesławiec, the Kłodzko region, Jelenia Góra, Zgorzelec, Lubin, Polkowice, Dzierżoniów and Wałbrzych.

To register for events within DFN, the easiest way is to use the search tool on the Festival’s website and find the activities that interest you. Each event description provides detailed information on whether and how to sign up.

We also invite everyone to watch this year’s promotional film, in which dr Aleksandra Ziober, the University of Wrocław’s coordinator, talks about what we can expect from the upcoming events. We warmly welcome all those interested!
