Scientific Councils

The tasks of the scientific councils are regulated in the statute of the University of Wrocław (§29).

The tasks of a scientific council include in particular:

1. awarding academic degrees in a given discipline;
2. recognizing diplomas for the award of academic degrees;
3. cooperating with deans in striving for the highest quality of research in a given discipline;
4. cooperating with deans in the evaluation of scientific activity in a given discipline;
5. proposing criteria for the employment of academic teachers in a given discipline;
6. proposing criteria for the scientific evaluation of academic teachers in a given discipline in research and research and teaching staff groups;
7. proposing a strategy for the development of the discipline at the University;
8. overseeing the training of doctoral students in the doctoral school in the discipline, including: – proposing recruitment criteria, – proposing training programmes, – ensuring that the college complies with the requirements for the evaluation of doctoral schools;
9. appointing committees to carry out certain activities in proceedings for the award of the doctoral degree;
10. taking decisions and other actions in matters concerning postdoctoral proceedings, including identifying candidates for postdoctoral committees;
11. giving opinions on applications for the conferment of powers equivalent to those conferred by the degree of doktor habilitowany in a given discipline;
12. giving its opinion on the employment of academic staff in research and research and teaching positions;
13. nominating a candidate for the selection committee referred to in § 172 of the Statute.
