Faculty of Chemistry
The Faculty of Chemistry is one of the leading academic centres in Poland and plays a significant role in the training of young chemists. There are currently more than 1,000 students pursuing first-cycle, second-cycle, doctoral and postgraduate degrees. There are 32 professors, 36 post-doctoral fellows and more than 70 PhDs working here. The academic staff ensures a high level of education and research. In recognition of its teaching and research achievements, the Polish Accreditation Committee awarded the Faculty of Chemistry a distinction grade, and the German Centre for Higher Education Development, a monitoring institution for European universities, placed the Faculty of Chemistry at the UWr in the Excellent Group.
Leading research topics pursued by the Faculty’s staff include the synthesis, structure studies and properties of inorganic and organic compounds. In particular, they concern compounds with biological activity, nanomaterials and luminophores. Thanks to the close link between research and teaching, the teaching offer is constantly updated and students gain knowledge of the latest developments in chemistry. They can also participate themselves in the discovery of new phenomena and the search for new compounds and materials by participating in research projects under the guidance of independent academics. The best ones participate in various international exchange programmes and scientific conferences. They graduate with Eurobachelor and Euromaster Label certificates. In addition, the Faculty offers many educational projects aimed at both students and teachers. The aim of these activities is to popularise chemistry among young people interested in natural sciences.
