Meeting of Prime Minister of the Republic of India Narendra Modi with a group of Polish indologists
A meeting between the Prime Minister of India and a group of Polish indologists representing four academic centres (UW, UJ, UAM and UWr) where indological studies are conducted took place in Warsaw. The University of Wrocław was represented at this meeting by dr hab. Przemysław Szczurek, prof. UWr, from the Department of Indian Studies (at the Institute of Classical, Mediterranean and Oriental Studies).
The meeting was initiated by the Prime Minister of India himself, who spoke with admiration and satisfaction about indological education in Poland, the academic interest in India, the activity of researchers and students, and the thematic diversity within the study of the languages, history, culture and art of South Asia. During the conversation with the Prime Minister, each participant had the opportunity to talk about their research and teaching institution and the profile of indological education, as well as the research and organisational perspectives of indological studies in Poland. The participants also expressed their thoughts on the possibilities of strengthening scientific and cultural ties between our two countries. Prime Minister Modi, a proponent of the philosophy and practice of yoga, expressed his satisfaction that the University of Wrocław has had a Postgraduate Programme in Classical Yoga for several years, in which classical yoga practices are based on theoretical foundations in yoga history, philosophy and terminology. During the meeting, Przemysław Szczurek presented the Prime Minister with a book which was published on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Indological studies in post-war Wrocław (entitled Indian Panorama in Wrocław).
