Standards for the protection of minors from abuse in force at the University of Wrocław

Short version

Who is protected by these standards?

Minors/children of anyone up to the age of 18.

What do these standards protect against?

Against harm to minors, that is:

committing or attempting to commit a criminal act to the detriment of a minor (e.g. bullying, threats),
neglecting the necessities of life (e.g. related to nutrition, hygiene, education or health),
other forms of harm, in particular shouting, physical punishment, causing suffering or harm, significant invasion of privacy or instilling a sense of vulnerability, humiliation or harassment, including via the Internet.

What behaviour is prohibited towards minors?

In the relationship of the University’s staff with minors, it is in particular unacceptable:

  1. the use of violence against them in any form, including physical punishment, the use of power relationships or physical superiority (intimidation, coercion, threats);
  2. shaming, humiliating, isolating, ridiculing, disrespecting, discriminating, harassing, bullying and insulting minors;
  3. acts of encouraging or ordering minors to discriminate against others or harass them;
  4. undesirable behaviour which has the purpose or effect of violating the dignity of minors and of creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment towards them;
  5. raising your voice, shouting, making them feel anxious;
  6. disclosing sensitive information (e.g. image, information about private life, family situation, health, legal situation, etc.) concerning a child to unauthorised persons, including other minors, without their consent or guardians;
  7. using vulgar words in the presence of or towards minors, emphasising the physical, visual and sexual attractiveness of anyone;
  8. entering into any kind of intimate, romantic or sexual relations with a minor, or making proposals of an inappropriate nature, making sexual comments, jokes, gestures and providing erotic and pornographic content, in whatever form;
  9. capturing the image of minors (filming, voice recording, photography) for private purposes;
  10. offering alcohol, tobacco products or illicit psychoactive substances to minors, consuming them with minors or in their presence;
  11. inviting minors to stay with them or to social gatherings;
  12. making the granting of an advantage, for example an assessment, the waiver of any punishment or as any other basis for a favourable decision, conditional on receiving an emotional or sexual advantage, as well as unfavourable treatment if it is refused.

What to do in the event of abuse?

If you are being abused or know that another child is being abused contact the Vice-Rector’s Representative for protection from harm to minors or ask another member of university staff to do so.

You will then be contacted by the representative who will explain how he or she can help you.
