Statue of Saint Lucia is under renovation
Her name means ‘bringer of light in the darkest of hours’, and now she brightens up the courtyard of the former Saint Joseph’s Convent even more.
Restoration work is underway on the statue of Saint Lucia adorning the courtyard of the former Saint Joseph’s Convent, UWr building at ul. Kuźnicza 35 in Wrocław.
The statue was almost entirely covered in moss, moreover, permanent discolouration was visible on its surface and chipped joints did not add to the beauty of the statue, so conservation work is being carried out.
Secondary cement mortar, efflorescence and organic pollutants have already been removed from the monument. Defects in the stone and joints have been repaired and the colour has been evened out. A so-called hydrophobisation treatment is being carried out – needed because of the constant threat of dampness due to the location of the monument.
Half of the value of the conservation work was covered thanks to funding from the budget of the Lower Silesian Voivodship.
