Study visit of dr hab. Alicja Krzemińska to Peru
Dr hab. Alicja Krzemińska from the Institute of Geography and Regional Development at the University of Wrocław undertook a study visit to Peru as part of the University of Wrocław’s academic, teaching and social activities.
The programme of the visit, carried out from 7 to 18 December 2025, included meetings at leading Peruvian universities, notably the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima and the Universidad Señor de Sipán. These meetings focused on the development of academic cooperation, the exchange of teaching experience, and the initiation of joint research in the fields of environmental protection, ecology and urban adaptation to climate change.
An important component of the visit was its environmental dimension, which involved an assessment of natural conditions and the potential for implementing green–blue infrastructure in Lima, Chincha Alta and El Carmen. Particular attention was paid to issues related to the intensive agricultural use of peri-urban areas, environmental pollution, access to good-quality water, and waste management.
At the same time, social and participatory activities were carried out, aimed at supporting communities at risk of social exclusion, including Afro-Peruvian communities. These activities included educational workshops for children and young people, initiatives to raise environmental awareness, and meetings with local community leaders. Special emphasis was placed on strengthening the role of women, promoting equal opportunities, and building agency among groups that experience everyday social and economic discrimination. The visit to Peru exemplifies the integration of the University of Wrocław’s academic and teaching mission with social and environmental responsibility. The experience gained will be used in further research and projects conducted at the Institute of Geography and Regional Development of the University of Wrocław.
