Success of the University of Wrocław in the MNiSW “Wektory Nauki” contest

We are pleased to announce that the University of Wrocław was successful in the prestigious “Wektory Nauki” contest organised by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. In this year’s edition, our university received financial support for two scientific projects.

The project “Rhyolite – rock of the year 2026: XXXI Meeting of the Petrology Group of the Mineralogical Society of Poland” received PLN 71,500.00 in the module Scientific Conferences. The project is under the management of dr hab. Anna Pietranik, prof. UWr from the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Environmental Management. Thanks to the financial support, it will be possible to organise a meeting of researchers from various parts of Poland who specialize in petrology and Earth sciences. The meeting will foster the exchange of experiences and the presentation of the newest research results. As prof. Anna Pietranik says: ‒ ”Rock of the Year” is annually chosen as part of the Polish-German initiative that popularizes Earth sciences. Rhyolite will receive this title in 2026 – it is a volcanic rock of complex origin, whose study will deliver precious information on volcanic processes, Earth’s history, and possibilities of practical application. The choice of rhyolite perfectly suits the scientific profile of the organisers – academic staff from the UWr who have been conducting research on this type of rocks for many years, sometimes as part of cooperation with international scientific facilities. Thanks to that, the conference will be an opportunity not only to present the newest results of research, but also to exchange experiences and integrate researchers from Poland and abroad. The event is planned to take place in a unique setting – the UNESCO Geopark “The Land of Extinct Volcanoes”. The place combines scientific, natural, and educational values, which creates an ideal space for discussion and popularisation of knowledge.

The project “Disapproval ‒ resistance – rebellion in the educational sphere” received the second funding of PLN 33,655.00 in the module Scientific monographs. The project is under the management of dr hab. Dorota Michułka, prof. UWr from the Faculty of Letters. The planned monograph will be a vital part of the international scientific debate, reflecting on the phenomena of resistance, critical thinking, and rebellion in the context of school and academic education. The publication refers to issues discussed during the VI Polish Philology Didactics Congress “Disapproval ‒ resistance – rebellion in the educational sphere,” which took place 23 – 25 September 2025 at the Institute of Polish Studies at the University of Wrocław.

The programme “Wektory Nauki” is an initiative of the MNiSW, whose aim is to support projects that serve the promotion of Polish scientific achievements, building cooperation among research facilities, and the efficient popularisation of research results. The contest includes financing scientific conferences and preparing and publishing monographs that help Polish science gain greater recognition and availability within the academic environment and for a broad group of recipients. The grants awarded to our university demonstrate the high quality of our research initiatives and their significance for scientific and educational development.
