Switch on classy Passenger Mode – an awareness and education campaign. ULC–CSEB UWr collaboration
The “Switch on classy Passenger Mode” awareness and education campaign has been launched with the aim of raising passengers’ awareness about the consequences of inappropriate behaviour, promoting a culture of kindness and responsibility during air travel, and reducing the number of incidents that disrupt both flight comfort and safety.
At the University of Wrocław, the Centre for Security Studies and Education (CSEB UWr) is the substantive partner in the project. The campaign is being coordinated on behalf of the Centre in cooperation with the Civil Aviation Authority (ULC) by prof. Barbara Wiśniewska-Paź (UWr). This inspiring, months-long collaboration between CSEB UWr, the Civil Aviation Authority, and other key partners — including LOT Polish Airlines, Enter Air, the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Border Guard, the Polish Police, the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency, Polish Airports, and airports across the country — holds great promise in achieving its important goals.
The Civil Aviation Authority has observed a steady increase in the number of incidents at airports and on board aircraft in recent years, often caused by unruly passengers.
Disruptive behaviour is becoming more common — from irresponsible jokes and verbal aggression to ignoring crew instructions — all of which threaten safety and create a negative atmosphere on board or while waiting at the airport. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has highlighted that a lack of social etiquette in public spaces is increasingly extending to aircraft. And yet, it takes so little to ensure that a journey is calm and pleasant — simply switch on Classy Passenger Mode.
Why does it matter? Because the culture of travel is something we build together — at the airport, in the air, and in every interaction along the way.
Together with the Civil Aviation Authority and the other campaign partners, we’ll soon be unveiling more details… Stay tuned — something is coming that will give you the chance to speak up and support the campaign’s practical impact!
The campaign is built around clear, simple messaging and a positive set of values. Information linked to the campaign’s key messages — as introduced in the first infographic — will be gradually rolled out at airports, on official websites, and across the social media channels of the participating organisations.
Running until the end of August, the campaign includes:
- a street poll video featuring passengers,
- an online survey (hosted on the ULC and CSEB UWr websites) to assess public awareness of the consequences of unruly behaviour in airports and on aircraft, the scale of the issue, and possible countermeasures to enhance travel comfort and safety,
- educational animations on social media,
- materials for use at airports and on board (leaflets, luggage tags, banners),
- collaborative activities with industry partners.
