Szewskie czwartki
The Historical Institute at the University of Wrocław invites you to a January online lecture as part of the Szewskie czwartki series.
On Thursday, 8 January at 6.00 pm, dr Magdalena Gibiec will deliver a lecture entitled Archiwum Senyka w badaniach nad Organizacją Ukraińskich Nacjonalistów w latach 30. XX wieku.
The speaker, an assistant professor at the Institute of History of the University of Wrocław, specialises in research on Polish–Ukrainian relations in the twentieth century, the Ukrainian nationalist movement, and the functioning of émigré political structures. She is the author of the monographs: Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists on Emigration. Its Formation and Transnational Connections in 1929–1934 (Routledge 2024) and Kulisy funkcjonowania Organizacji Ukraińskich Nacjonalistów na emigracji w świetle Archiwum Senyka (1929–1934) (University of Wrocław Press 2025).
The lecture will focus on the activities of the OUN outside the borders of the Second Polish Republic, reconstructed on the basis of unique correspondence from the so-called Omelan Senyk Archive—one of the organisation’s leading activists. Analysis of these materials makes it possible to reveal the mechanisms through which the OUN’s émigré structures functioned, their internal and international relations, conflicts with the domestic base, and attempts at political lobbying undertaken in the West.
More about the uniqueness of the discovery of the Senyk Archive, long believed to have been lost, can be found in the article.
