Tamara Frączek with the best master’s thesis
Tamara Frączek, our graduate and student of the Doctoral College of Mathematics was awarded the first prize in the 57th national competition organized by the Polish Mathematical Society for the best thesis in the field of theory of probability and application of mathematics.
Tamara Frączek’s master’s thesis titled “Branching-selection particle system with semiexponential increments” written under the supervision of dr Piotr Dyszewski (Mathematical Institute of the University of Wrocław) concerned the dynamics of systems of moving particles that undergo division and selection. Such models are used by physicists for modeling the propagation of front. In her thesis, Ms Frączek described the propagation speed of such a particle system.
Our graduate, Michał Dąbrowski, got a distinction in the same competition for a master’s thesis titled “Statistics arbitrage in Polish Equities Market using deep learning techniques” written under the supervision of dr Marek Adamczyk (Institute of Computer Science of the University of Wrocław.) Michał Dąbrowski examined the statistical arbitrage technique of pair trading, in which instead of relying on two highly correlated assets, the latter is replaced by a replication of the former constructed from so-called “risk factors”.
Bachelor thesis titled „Oscylacje okresowe w układach elektrycznych” [“Periodic oscillations in electrical systems”] written by Martyna Wereta also got a distinction. It was written under the supervision of prof. dr hab. Grzegorz Karcha (Mathematical Institute of the University of Wrocław.) In her thesis, Martyna Werte analyzed mathematically and numerically several models from electric circuit theory that exhibit periodic oscillations.
