The Dragon capsule with our astronaut has arrived at the ISS!

The Dragon capsule, carrying Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, has successfully arrived at the International Space Station (ISS). The four-person Ax-4 mission crew will spend two weeks on the station.

The University of Wrocław has been selected by the Polish Space Agency (POLSA) – as one of only two universities in Poland – to host a live connection with the International Space Station (ISS).

This live session with the ISS, during which school and university students will have the opportunity to ask questions to the Polish astronaut and member of the IGNIS mission crew, is scheduled for 4 July. The event will be closed to the public.

The International Space Station (ISS) is the largest human-made object in Earth’s orbit. For over two decades, it has served as an advanced research laboratory, where astronauts from around the globe conduct experiments in physics, biology, medicine, and engineering—many of which are not possible to perform on Earth. The ISS stands as a symbol of global scientific and technological cooperation, being a joint venture of agencies such as NASA, ESA, Roscosmos, JAXA, and CSA.

The IGNIS mission is one of the upcoming European crewed space missions. It is both a Polish and European endeavour. Initiated and funded by Poland, it is being carried out in cooperation with the European Space Agency (ESA) and the American company Axiom Space. The mission’s goals include developing advanced space technologies and conducting key scientific research. As part of the mission, Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski will take part in a series of experiments and educational activities aimed at raising public awareness of astronaut work and the importance of space exploration. Our researchers will also be involved. Among the experiments to be conducted on board the ISS is AstroMentalHealth. This project is coordinated by the University of Silesia and involves, in addition to the University of Wrocław, the University of Zielona Góra, SWPS University, and the LunAres Research Station. The second university selected by POLSA to conduct a live connection with the ISS is Rzeszów University of Technology.
