Wystawa Bellum et artes

The exhibition “Bellum et artes – casus Silesiae. Fine arts and religion in Silesia during the wars of the 17th century”.

This story will be about a war – one of the largest that ever crossed Europe. A war that broke out in the 17th century, lasted thirty years and covered the entire central part of the continent. However, this will not be a story about battles and campaigns, but about the fate of the people who lived in their shadow for decades. Today, they are known to us thanks, among other things, to artists – painters, graphic artists and architects – whose wartime experiences are reflected in their works or to whom the war set them specific tasks.

The place to which this story relates will be Silesia. Its inhabitants – due to the geopolitical and religious situation – found themselves in an extremely complicated position in the 17th century.
