The fourth, anniversary issue of the Ekslibris Bulletin is now available!
We are pleased to announce that the Library of the University of Wrocław has just published the fourth issue — and the first of this year — of the Ekslibris Information Bulletin, which also marks a special anniversary edition.
This exceptional publication serves not only as a chronicle of events, but above all as a testament to the dynamic life of the institution that is the University Library — the heart of academic Wrocław and a space where history harmoniously meets modernity. The Bulletin documents the most important activities, initiatives, and projects undertaken by our Library team.
Ekslibris is more than just a report on Library life — it is also a record of the academic community that draws on its resources, its inspiring power, and its space for work, research, and creative exchange. Each issue builds a bridge between librarians, students, researchers, and the wider scholarly and cultural community.
The fourth issue has earned the status of an anniversary edition not only due to reaching a numerical milestone but also thanks to a special gift prepared by the editorial team: a unique, modern ex libris inspired by the legacy of the former Municipal Library of Wrocław. The central theme of this ex libris is the historic Alphabetical Volume Catalogue — the so-called Bandkatalog — one of the University Library’s most valuable treasures and a lasting symbol of the order of knowledge and continuity of tradition.
This monumental catalogue, comprising nearly 300 volumes, was created in the second half of the 19th century during the historic merger of Wrocław’s three main book collections. Today, under special conservation protection, it is housed in the Special Collections Reading Room of the University Library as a testament to the city’s and region’s library heritage.
The anniversary ex libris was designed by Joanna Konopczak — graphic designer and librarian at the University Library in Wrocław — who, through a modern aesthetic, gave this historical symbol a fully contemporary form. The new graphic emblem is not only an artistic keepsake but also a powerful expression of the intergenerational connection among those devoted to science and books.
In the latest issue of Ekslibris, readers will also find articles dedicated to current events, the work of the Library team, curiosities from the special collections, digitisation projects, and collaborations with national and international institutions.
We warmly invite you to download and read the anniversary issue — available in electronic form on the University Library’s website.
May this special edition be a shared celebration for readers, staff, researchers, and all friends of the University Library in Wrocław, who together form a unique academic community built around knowledge, tradition, and openness to the future.
