The jubilee 30th edition of “Meetings at Nehring Hall”

The Institute of Polish Studies at the University of Wrocław, together with the Society of Friends of Wrocław Polish Studies, invites you to the 30th edition of the popular-science lecture series in Polish studies, “Meetings at Nehring Hall”, organised in the 2025/2026 academic year. The series opened by a lecture by Prof. Jan Miodek entitled “Język sportu w moim życiu”, which took place on 5 October.

Lectures are held in Room 125 (first floor) of the Institute of Polish Studies at the University of Wrocław, pl. Nankiera 15b, on Sundays from 11:00 to 12:00. The language of instruction is Polish.

Admission to all events is free.

Below we present individual events as part of the 30th anniversary edition of Meetings at Nehring Hall

On 16 November, a lecture entitled Młodopolska fantastyka naukowa i jej proroctwa was delivered by dr Fryderyk Nguyen. Dr Nguyen is a literary scholar and Assistant Professor in the Department of Positivism and Young Poland Literature History at the Institute of Polish Studies of the University of Wrocław. His research focuses on psychological and science-fiction themes in the literature of Polish modernism. He is the author of a book on concepts of the psyche in the prose of Tadeusz Miciński and Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz. His academic interests include literary myth-criticism, psychoanalysis and analytical psychology, as well as hauntology. He is also a musician, composer, producer, and performer working under the pseudonym Francis Tuan.

On 14 December, a lecture entitled Jak (i po co) czytać komiksy o superbohaterach? will be delivered by dr Michał Wolski. Dr Wolski is a literary scholar, film studies researcher, and typographer, and an assistant professor in the Department of Editing at the Institute of Polish Studies of the University of Wrocław. He is a co-founder and President of the Association of Pop Culture and Pop Culture Education Researchers “Trickster”. His academic interests include analysis of the mechanisms governing large transmedia franchises, the aesthetics and culture of comics, neo-baroque cinema, and giant robots from outer space. He is the editor of Polish editions of Marvel’s superhero comics and the author of two books on the functioning of the vampire motif in culture. In his spare time, which he does not have, he contributes to Zeszyty Komiksowe and CD-Action, and also co-hosts the podcast Pora Imperatora.
