The National One Novel Competition 2023 is behind us!

On April 21, 2023 (online) under the patronage of the Dean of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Wrocław, professor at the University of Wrocław, dr hab. Arkadiusz Lewicki, the seventh edition of the National One Novel Competition took place. This time the competition was dedicated to the novel ‘Death and the Dervish’ by Meša Selimović. The event, chaired by dr Marcin Maksymilian Borowski, was organised by the Student Scientific Association of Russicists WroSlawianie in cooperation with the Department of Russian Literature and Culture of the IFS UWr and the Department of Practical Russian Language Learning at the University of Wrocław and the Student Scientific Association Ljudi. The One Novel Competition has been held at the University of Wrocław for seven years and has become one of the showcases of the Institute of Slavic Studies.

The sponsors of the awards were:

Vice-Rector for Student Affairs of the University of Wrocław, dr hab. Maciej Cesarz; Dean of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Wrocław dr hab. Arkadiusz Lewicki professor at the University of Wrocław; Director of the Institute of Slavic Studies, dr hab. Oleh Beley, professor at the University of Wrocław; ‘Tajne Komplety’ bookstore, ‘Cegła’ Literary Materials Magazine, the ‘Rita Baum’ Cultural and Artistic Association, ‘Czasoprzestrzeń’ Center for Culture and Local Initiatives, and many others.

This year, 185 people took part in the competition. The test had a score of 40.

*dervish in Polish is similar to drwisz which means mock, the title means ‘are you mocking me or what?’
