The NFP Prize was granted to prof. Wodziński!
We met this year’s winners of the NFP Prize (Prize of the Foundation for Polish Science), recognized as the highest scientific achievement in Poland. The NFP Prize was granted to four distinguished scholars, among them prof. Marcin Wodziński from Taube Department of Jewish Studies at the University of Wrocław. Congratulations!
The prize is granted in four scientific fields: life and Earth sciences, chemistry and materials sciences, maths and physics engineering sciences, as well as social and humanities studies.
Among the laureates this year were present:
Prof. dr hab. Marcin Wodziński from the Taube Department of Jewish Studies at the University of Wrocław, was awarded the NFP Prize in social and humanities studies for his innovative studies on Hasidism, explaining the role of culture, politics and geography in shaping religious identities and interethnic relations.
Dr hab. Sebastian Glatt from Malopolska Centre of Biotechnology at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, was awarded the NFP Prize in life and Earth sciences for establishing the structure and function of the Elongator complex affecting the accuracy of protein biosynthesis
Prof. dr hab. inż. Janusz Lewiński from the Institute of Physical Chemistry and the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Warsaw, was awarded the NFP Prize in chemistry and materials sciences for the development of mechanochemical methods for the synthesis of perovskites that enhance their photovoltaic properties.
Prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Sacha from the Institute of Theoretical Physics at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, was awarded the NFP Prize in maths and physics engineering sciences for formulating the theory of time crystals.
The NFP Prize is an individually granted award. It is awarded through the Foundation Council in the form of a contest. Laureates are chosen among the pool of candidates submitted by distinguished members of the scientific community, invited by the NFP’s Council and Board. The NFP Council serves as the jury of the competition, choosing the laureates based on independent experts’ and reviewers’ opinions – mainly from abroad -evaluating the candidates’ achievements.
The NFP Prize is granted for notable achievements and scientific discoveries, which push the boundaries of knowledge, open new cognitive perspectives, contribute distinguishing input in civic and cultural development, and ensure Poland a significant place in confronting the most ambitious challenges of the modern world. The amount of the prize is PLN 250,000.
The NFP Prizes have been granted since 1992, this year being the 33rd edition. The pool of laureates consists of 121 people.
Let us recall, that in 2023 prof. Marcin Stępień from the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Wrocław was awarded the NFP Prize in chemistry and materials sciences.
