There is chemistry between us

Vice-Rector for Research prof. dr hab. Artur Błażejewski and his team had the pleasure of visiting the PCC Rokita chemical plant in Brzeg Dolny at the end of last year. The visit included a presentation of the plant, production lines and Centrum Badań i Rozwoju (Research and Development Center). A conversation with PCC Rokita CEO Wiesław Klimkowski about the possibility of cooperation between one of the largest chemical manufacturers in Lower Silesia and our university was an important part of the visit. This resulted in representatives of PCC Rokita visiting the University of Wrocław last week.

The university hosted the following guests: Head of Centrum Badań i Rozwoju (Research and Development Center) dr Igor Korczagin, Kompleks Chemii Fosforu (Phosphorus Chemistry Complex) Director dr Łukasz Górecki, and Badania i Rozwój (Research and Development) Expert dr inż. Agnieszka Lipowczan. Our guests were given a tour of the Faculty of Chemistry and the Faculty of Biotechnology. Thanks to the hospitality of the deans and our hosts dr hab. Remigiusz Bąchor, and dr hab. Jerzy Gubernator most of the laboratories and research equipment available to both Faculties were available for viewing. We had the opportunity to talk to laboratory executives about the research our scientists are conducting and about the possibilities for commercial research and performing industry expertise. Laboratory of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Laboratory of Thermal Analyses, and Mass Spectrometry Laboratory attracted great interest. The Faculty of Biotechnology was the site of a discussion on the extremely important topic of wastewater decontamination, sewage treatment plants, and related research.

During the conversation between PCC Rokita representatives and Vice-Dean for Innovation and Development, dr hab. Marcin Sobczyk, Vice-Dean for Student Affairs, dr hab. Piotr Durlak, and Head of Centre for Technology Transfer, Maciej Kaminski, many topics related to joint research and scientific projects and technology transfer were discussed. An extremely important topic of discussion concerned our students and graduates. There were proposals for student internships and practical training, as well as employment opportunities for our graduates at PCC Rokita.

There is no doubt that there is chemistry between PCC Rokita and the University of Wrocław, and this will soon result in collaboration. If you happen to have ideas and proposals for joint ventures, we invite you to the Centre for Technology Transfer (CTT) at the University of Wrocław, where you will be assisted in contacting representatives of PCC Rokita.

We are grateful to the representatives of PCC Rokita for the visit, as well as to our hosts from the Faculties of Chemistry and Biotechnology for allowing us to explore the laboratories, and for the extremely interesting and inspiring conversations.
