University of Wrocław as a more accessible university 2025-2029

The University of Wrocław is implementing the project ‘Uniwersytet Wrocławski uczelnią bardziej dostępną’ (eng. University of Wrocław as a more accessible university) as part of the programme European Funds for Social Development 2021-2027 co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus, contract no: FERS.03.01-IP.08-0161/24.

The aim of the project is to achieve the highest possible degree of accessibility of the University of Wrocław in all 8 areas of accessibility for people with special needs, including people with disabilities, and thus to increase the opportunities for students and doctoral students to benefit from the offer of higher education, as well as to increase awareness and competence of 2316 persons from the university staff in the area of accessibility of the educational offer.

Tasks implemented as part of the project:

The project covers 8 key areas of accessibility that will be developed and implemented at the university:

  • Organisational structure- Establishment and support of the activities of the Accessibility Unit (Service Team for Support and Accessibility). A unit permanently established within the structures of the University of Wrocław, which will comprehensively deal with the implementation and coordination of activities related to accessibility, in accordance with the Act of 19 July 2019 on Providing Accessibility to People with Special Needs.
  • Accessibility architectural – carry out an accessibility analysis of the University’s architectural resources, adapt the headquarters of the Service Team for Support and Accessibility to the accessibility requirements, and carry out design and cost documentation and construction and installation works, on the University buildings selected for the project.
  • Information and communication accessibility – striving for full communication and information accessibility of all organisational units of the university by carrying out an analysis of accessibility in this area and developing a plan for eliminating barriers.
  • Digital accessibility – creating accessible internal IT systems and administrative procedures aimed at ensuring digital accessibility of the entire university and monitoring the accessibility of existing IT systems and administrative procedures, creating accessibility standards for university websites.
  • Supporting technologies – development of existing technological facilities and development of a detailed technological development plan, purchase of 6 sets of portable induction loops, preparation of a mobile application.
  • Procedures – analysis of current procedures, development and implementation of procedures to facilitate the functioning of persons with disabilities at the university.
  • Education support services – increasing psychological support for those requiring adaptation of the educational process.
  • Disability awareness activities – training and study visits to raise staff awareness and competence in accessibility.

For whom?

The project is aimed at employees of the university (management, teaching and administrative staff), doctoral students, employees of the Accessibility Unit (Service Team for Support and Accessibility) and representatives of institutionalised student structures who work with students or supervise the work of the university and will ultimately support, directly or indirectly, Persons with Disabilities and Persons with Special Needs.

Project participants will gain new competences and the university will become a more open and accessible place for all.
