University of Wrocław in the Perspektywy 2023 ranking
The University of Wrocław was ranked fifth in the University Ranking 2023 published on June 29 by the Educational Foundation Perspektywy. Ahead of us were ex aequo in first place the University of Warsaw and Jagiellonian University, in third place the Adam Mickiewicz University Poznań and in fourth place the University of Gdańsk.
However, in the Academic Ranking 2023, which includes all types (both public and non-public) of HEIs, we are ranked 19th. We were overtaken mainly by medical and technical universities. UWr scored 69.4 points out of a possible 100. Last year we had 70.9 points. In this year’s edition of the Perspektywy ranking, one can observe very strong competition between the universities, which manifests itself in small differences in scores between individual universities. There are many ex aequo places. For example, as many as four universities were placed ex aequo in 12th place and four ex aequo in 16th place.
The methodology of the ranking is based on seven main categories: prestige (12%), graduates on the labour market (12%), innovation (8%), scientific potential (15%), scientific efficiency (28%), educational conditions (10%), internationalisation (15%).
The strongest strengths of the University of Wrocław are scientific potential and internationalisation, in both of these categories we are in 6th place among all universities.
In the category of scientific potential, the indicators are: evaluation of scientific activity, saturation of the staff with the most qualified persons, habilitation rights and doctoral rights. In this category, UWr was promoted from last year’s 10th place to 6th place.
The promotion from the 8th place to the 6th place in the internationalisation category was achieved, among others, thanks to publications in cooperation with foreign researchers (ICI- Collaboration Impact), participation in the alliance of European universities, multiculturalism of the student community and foreign student exchanges.
The University of Wrocław’s strength is also its prestige; in this category we maintained last year’s 7th place among all universities. This indicator is calculated on the basis of opinions about the university among academic staff and international recognition (the university’s position in the most important global rankings).
Ranking of fields of study by Perspektywy 2023
When it comes to the best fields of study at UWr, computer science (master’s studies), physics and special pedagogy were in the lead. These fields of study, just as last year, ranked third among all Polish universities. History and journalism and communication were promoted to fourth place in the country. Last year’s fourth place was also maintained by psychology, geography, law and biotechnology. In fifth place were archaeology, Polish studies, foreign philology, astronomy and geology. Sixth place was taken by administration, biology, chemistry, cultural studies, mathematics, pedagogy and sociology, seventh by English studies and philosophy, and eighth by political science and international relations.
