UWr Chair of Jewish Studies employees awarded

We recently reported on the success of prof. Marcin Wodziński, who received the Prize of the Foundation for Polish Science. Today the UWr Chair of Jewish Studies staff can boast of more awards.

Dr Jagoda Budzik received third prize in the seventh edition of the Jozef A. Gierowski and Chony Shmeruk Prize for her book “Erec szam.” The competition selected the best scholarly book publications in the field of Jewish history and culture in Poland for 2023.

The results of the 11th edition of the biennial Majer Bałaban Competition for the best master’s and doctoral theses on Jews and Israel, organised by the Jewish Historical Institute, were also announced. Dr Adam Stepnowski won third place in the competition for his paper “Szund – zjawisko popularnej literatury jidysz a modernizacja społeczności żydowskiej w Europie Wschodniej (od 1860 do 1914),” written under the supervision of prof. Joanna Degler.

Dr Monika Jaremków for her work entitled “Żydowska literatura piękna w polskim repertuarze wydawniczym w XX wieku (edycje książkowe przekładów z języków hebrajskiego i jidysz)” received an honorable mention. The dissertation was prepared under the supervision of prof. Anna Żbikowska-Migoń of the Institute of Information and Media Sciences at the University of Wrocław (former Institute of Scientific Information and Library Science).
