
UWr mathematician with Smart Growth Leader Award
Dr Barbara Jasiulis-Gołdyn, assistant professor at the Institute of Mathematics of the University of Wrocław, received the Smart Growth Leader Award.
The awards ceremony took place on 20 June during the 9th Smart Growth Forum in Gdańsk at the Olivia Star Business Centre.
The Intelligent Development Leader is the award that leads the way among all gratifications awarded at the Gala of the Smart Development Forum.
The distinction is dedicated to business people, local governments and organizations such as universities or research institutes. The distinction refers to specific people and their achievements in the field of implementing innovations on the market or conducting business in an innovative way.
Dr Barbara Jasiulis-Gołdyn was awarded for her interdisciplinary research and projects at the intersection of mathematics, medicine, atmospheric sciences, finance, computer science and astronomy, which translate into the development of innovations in areas such as environmental protection, the financial sector and the space industry.
The award also recognizes the steps taken to promote the conducted activity and increase public knowledge about niche areas of science, but important from the point of view of social interest.
The scientist specializes in the application of probability theory and statistics, analysis of extreme events, management of actuarial and environmental risk, modeling of air pollution indicators, analysis of medical data, valuation and analysis of financial instruments in conditions of variable interest rates and statistical methods in astronomy.
Her scientific work focuses on interdisciplinary research and sustainable development through cooperation with the socio-economic environment.
In 2016 she received a Master of Arts degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. In 2016-2019 she was a project manager in the POWROTY program of the Foundation for Polish Science.
In 2023 she was a Visiting Scientist at the International Research Agenda AstroCeNT: Science and Technology Center for Particle Astrophysics.
In 2023 she completed an internship at the University of Liverpool.
In 2019 she received the Polish Smart Growth Award in the category Scientist of the Future.
