
UWr ranks higher in QS World University Rankings 2025
University of Wrocław have been placed in a group of 851-900 best universities in the world in the newest ranking by QS World University Rankings 2025. It is an uplift in comparison to last year, when UWr was placed in the 901-950 group. We have been ranked sixth amongst Polish universities, and ranked fourth amongst so-called “standard universities” [pol. uniwersytet klasyczny]. We are the highest ranked university from the Lower Silesia region.
Top three universities from this year’s ranking are, in order: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1st), Imperial College London (2nd), and University of Oxford (3rd).
The ranking has been published annually for over twenty years by Quacquarelli Symonds, the leader in providing analytical services for international higher education sector, and is considered to be one of the four most important global rankings of universities.
There are more and more universities are ranked every year, thus the competition is growing. In this year’s edition, QS assessed around 3000 higher education institutions. Eventually, 1503 were placed in the ranking.
As it was the last time, twenty-two Polish universities were assessed. As for the Polish “standard universities”, we have been ranked fourth, ex aequo with the University of Gdańsk. Considering all types of Polish higher education institutions, we have been ranked sixth, ex aequo with the AGH University of Krakow, the Poznań University of Life Sciences and the University of Gdańsk. Institutions placed higher than us: University of Warsaw, Jagiellonian University, Warsaw University of Technology, Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań and Gdańsk University of Technology.
In QS World University Rankings the most important factor, with a significance of as much as 30%, is the Academic Reputation – the university’s recognition among the academic personnel. Another crucial factor, with a significance of 20%, is standardised amount of quotations, citations and references of scientific publications per person employed. The Employer Reputation also counts – with the significance of 15%, along with the Faculty Student Ratio – with the significance of 10%. The remaining factors, with the significance of 5% each, are: International Faculty, International Students, International Research Network, Sustainability, and Employment Outcomes.
Our strongest factors are Faculty Student Ratio (492nd in the world) and Academic Reputation (587th in the world). The uplift in those categories proves that we constantly work on the quality of education and we continue to be rated higher and higher by academics around the world.
