Very good evaluation results of the Center

In the summer of this year, the Willy Brandt Center for German and European Studies at the University of Wrocław underwent an international evaluation after a further five years of operation. It was commissioned by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German partner together with UWr in charge of the institution. The evaluation was carried out by the Dutch company Ockham | IPS, which specialises in such proceedings. The Center was evaluated in a variety of areas, ranging from research and teaching to activities in the public space. In all areas, the evaluation went very well. This prompted the Center’s German partner DAAD to decide to continue its cooperation with UWr in the implementation of the project for the next five years, i.e. until 31 December 2028. In justification of the DAAD’s position, it was emphasised: “The fact that no additional conditions have been imposed is testament to the professional and efficient work of the Center.”

The Center, a joint initiative of UWr and DAAD, was established in 2002 as an interdisciplinary and interdepartmental unit of our university. It currently employs nine research and teaching staff who represent a variety of disciplines, such as history, literary studies, political science and cultural sciences. The main focus of the Centre is the study of contemporary Germany and Polish-German relations in the European context. In cooperation with the Faculty of Historical and Pedagogical Sciences, the Centre runs a second-cycle course of study: Interdisciplinary European Studies. It also educates doctoral students, whose thesis defenses are held at the respective faculties of the University. The Center is also very active in the public space and performs advisory functions for various institutions at home and abroad.
