Visit of Dr Juan García Blesa to the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics
From 4 to 6 November 2025 of the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics of the University of Wrocław will host Dr Juan García Blesa from the University of Hagen (Germany), who will visit our university under the Visiting Professors IDUB programme. Dr García Blesa is a recognised scholar in the fields of critical theory of international law, legal research methodology, and the relationship between culture and law.
During his stay in Wrocław, Dr García Blesa will deliver a public lecture entitled “Deciding Human Rights: Legal Rhetoric and Rights Conflicts in Europe”, to be held on Wednesday, 5 November 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., in Amphitheatre A, Building C, FLAE.
In addition, Dr García Blesa will conduct three editions of the workshop “The Cultural Dimensions of Legal Certainty in the Case-law of the ECtHR”, to be held as follows:
- Tuesday, 4 November, 3:15–4:45 p.m., Building A, Room 217
- Wednesday, 5 November, 1:15–2:45 p.m., Building A, Room 217
- Thursday, 6 November, 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m., Building B, Room 201
Participation in the workshops requires prior registration. Applications should be sent to juan.garciablesa@fernuni-hagen.de, indicating the preferred session date.
Both the lecture and the workshops will be conducted in English.
Biography
Dr. Juan Garcia Blesa is a specialist in critical theory in relation to international law, legal research methodology, and law and culture research. He received his doctorate from the University of Seville in 2009, graduated from the Diplomatic Academy at the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2007, and is a member of Nomos: Centre for International Research on Law and Culture, founded at Jagiellonian University. He currently teaches at the Faculty of Law, University of Hagen. His most recent research focuses on the importance of cultural diversity in European law-application and the political economic aspects of the rhetorical analysis of law.
