Visit of the Rwandan ambassador to the UWr
On August 31, a guest of Rector prof. Robert Olkiewicz at the main building of the University of Wrocław was the ambassador of Rwanda to Poland, prof. Anastase Shyaka. The meeting in the Rector’s office was attended also by the Head of the University’s International Office, Urszula Broda.
During his visit, the Ambassador visited the halls of the University of Wrocław Museum – the Aula Leopoldina and the Oratorium Marianum – and viewed portraits of former rectors displayed in the sectorial corridor on the first floor of the Baroque main building.
Ambassador Prof. Shyaka is the Head of the youngest embassy in Poland – the Embassy of Rwandan, established in 2021. His visit to UWr is another part of a tour of Polish Universities to initiate cooperation between Rwanda, particularly the University of Rwanda, and Polish Universities.
The Rwandan ambassador spoke excellent Polish because, how it turned out, he is a graduate of a Polish University, the Warsaw University of Technology. During the meeting, prof. Anastase Shyaka expressed a strong willingness to collaborate with the UWr in the fields of natural sciences such as such as biotechnology and chemistry, as well as in social sciences (sociology, international relations), exact sciences (computer science), and economics.
Rector prof. Olkiewicz presented UWr as one of ten in Poland and the only one Research University in Lower Silesia. He also discussed the University’s study opportunities. They explored scholarship options for international students, including those from Rwanda, particularly those offered by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA).
We hope that the letter of intent for cooperation will be signed in the near future.
