Dolnośląski Festiwal Nauki

Lower Silesian Science Festival

The Lower Silesian Science Festival (DFN) is the largest festival popularising science in our region. Every year from September to October several hundred attractions are organised in Wrocław and several towns in Lower Silesia. They are organised by Wrocław higher education institutions, institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences and non-university circles.

The programme of the festival includes, among others, lectures and talks, workshops, demonstrations and classes in laboratories, exhibitions, excursions or discussions, all prepared by scientists and experts who strive to present scientific phenomena, the latest achievements and directions of development in all fields of science, as well as culture and art, in a way understandable to everyone.

The first edition of the festival in 1998 was initiated by Professor Aleksandra Kubicz from the Department of Biochemistry, University of Wrocław. For many years, the coordinator of the DFN from Wroclaw University was Prof. Kazimierz Orzechowski from the Department of Chemistry, associated with the festival from its inception. Until recently, the function of university coordinator was held by Prof. Adam Pawłowski from the Institute of Information Science and Library Science, and since 2017 by Dr. Grażyna Antczak from the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy.

All faculties of the University of Wrocław are involved in the organisation of the festival events, as well as the Library of the University of Wrocław, Foreign Language Centre, the Confucius Institute, the University of the Third Age and the Willi Brandt Centre for German and European Studies.

The success of the Lower Silesian Science Festival is a result of cooperation and involvement of many people – scientists, doctoral students and students, employees of the DFN Office, coordinators from particular higher education institutions and from UWr departments, and thousands of residents of Lower Silesia, who make the festival so popular and highly attended every year.

The project “Integrated Program for the Development of the University of Wrocław 2018-2022” co-financed by the European Union from the European Social Fund
