We invite you to the Botanical Garden of the University of Wrocław!
For several years now, the Botanical Garden of the University of Wrocław has been open to visitors during the winter months. From January to March it is also open at weekends, allowing guests to explore its rich greenhouse collections more extensively.
Three times a day, a guide leads tours through the facilities featuring tropical plants, succulents, a collection of ivies, aquaria with one of the largest collections of aquatic plants, and the Nature Panorama – a permanent exhibition that enables visitors to trace and understand the development of life on Earth.
Winter is also a time for individual observation of plants in their dormant phase, seeing what trees look like without leaves, and in particular, how fascinating their bark can be, something we often overlook during the growing season. Visitors can also observe the first blooms of the year. Hellebores, witch hazels, winter jasmine and fragrant viburnum are among the specimens that can delight with their flowers despite snow and cold. In March, the garden remains open at weekends, but guided walks through the exotic collections come to an end and the search for spring, or rather early spring begins. Each newly emerging plant is a joy like discovering a treasure; nature is clearly awakening, the grass is becoming more intensely green, and the birds are singing ever more loudly.
This year, the Botanical Garden of the University of Wrocław will open for the season on Saturday, 28 March. Until the end of October it will be open daily, allowing visitors to observe the ever-changing spectacle of colours and forms from week to week. As always, the garden staff have planned several themed events, but spring is the time when magnolias take centre stage, followed by flowering tulips, of which more than 100,000 were planted last year. The tulip season is the most colourful period of the year. The garden enchants not only by day but also during evening tulip illuminations, and this year opportunities to experience the garden will be further expanded: during the peak flowering weekend it will also be open for early-morning visits from 5:00 a.m.
