
We will implement the European University Initiative
The authorities of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology and the University of Wrocław have signed a letter of intent on cooperation regarding membership of the European University Alliances Arqus and Unite!.– This declaration of mutual actions is a natural consequence of the desire to make academic Wrocław more European – emphasising the vice-rectors of both universities.
In a document signed on Friday, the Wrocław University of Science and Technology and the University of Wrocław declared their cooperation in fulfilling the mission entrusted to them as members of the European University Alliances Arqus (University of Wrocław) and Unite! (Wrocław University of Science and Technology).
The document was signed by dr hab. Patrycja Matusz, prof. UWr, Vice-Rector for Projects and International Relations at the University of Wrocław and prof. Dariusz Łydżba, Vice-Rector for Cooperation at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology.
The cooperation is concerned with the exchange of experience and good practice in the implementation of the European University initiative, undertaking joint actions resulting from the implementation of this initiative, promoting the internationalisation of teaching and research activities and exchanging information on international teaching and research activities. Details of joint undertakings will be specified in subsequent agreements concluded between the universities.
– Membership in the European network is crucial for both our universities – said prof. Patrycja Matusz. – It will determine where we are going in the coming years. We should fight together to make academic Wrocław as European as possible.
Prof. Dariusz Łydżba added: – If we are to realise the idea of the European University in one city, it is difficult for the two universities involved in this initiative not to work together. It would be a failure. Out cooperation is, therefore, a natural consequence of our pursuit of development. We should share knowledge and cooperate in various fields, for the good of our students and the good of Poland.
Prof. Aradiusz Wójs, Rector of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, prof. Arkadiusz Wójs, emphasised that the Wrocław University of Science and Technology and the University of Wrocław share similar values, aspirations, plans for the future and opportunities for development. – We want to make full use of them– he emphasised. – So as not to compare ourselves only on the scale of Poland, but to think about a broader perspective. Out place in the future depends on what happens in the coming months, what role we will play in European networks and how many opportunities we will be able to seize. I am very pleased that we are embarking on this path together with the University of Wrocław, as it increases our joint chances of achieving the greatest possible benefits.

European University Alliances is funded by the European Commission. It aims to create a European Education Area by 2025 to serve as a foundation for broader cooperation among European universities by enhancing student and staff mobility and supporting the quality, integration and competitiveness of European higher education.
The alliances, therefore, aim to bring together academic staff and researchers from different countries to make even greater use of the research and teaching potential of their universities.

Then in 2021, the Wrocław University of Science and Technology joined the European network Unite!” – University Network for Innovation, Technology and Engineering. It consists of the University of Grenoble, University of Lisbon, Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Aalto University, Technical University of Darmstadt, Polytechnic University of Turin and Technical University of Catalonia.
