What does Arqus give us? Information meeting at the Faculty of Letters
We have recently started a series of information meetings at our University concerning the University of Wrocław’s participation in the Arqus Universities Alliance. Today, we organised another one at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Wrocław, where Arqus Office staff Emilia Wilanowska and Piotr Malak talked about the benefits of the University of Wrocław being a member of the Arqus Alliance, how academic staff and students of our university and, above all, the Faculty of Letters, can benefit from the opportunities provided by this innovative model of cooperation between European universities.
-The whole idea behind the Alliance is to showcase cooperation between nine European universities (Granada, Graz, Leipzig, Lyon, Maynooth, Minho, Padua, Vilnius and Wrocław) in a slightly different dimension. This is an extension of the form of cooperation that has been implemented so far. Thanks to belonging to the Alliance, we have become part of a larger whole, an entity that is of great importance on the international stage. Within this entity, we will strengthen cooperation with European universities and it will be multi-level – it is to include not only didactics, improving education and training, but also increasing and enhancing joint research capabilities. The fact that we have a group of universities that are just as willing to cooperate as we are, which creates a new field where new international relations can be established or existing ones can be expanded.” – Emilia Wilanowska, head of the Arqus Office, said during the meeting.
Participants at the meeting learned about the opportunities offered by participation in Communities of Practice, which are groups of subject matter experts exchanging knowledge, practical solutions and ideas, and were inspired to create their own Communities of Practice within Arqus. Emilia Wilanowska and Piotr Malak also talked about what the Arqus Talent Scholarship is and what students at our university can gain from this programme, as well as about Arqus Agora, Arqus Hubs, Arqus Living Labs and the fields of study co-created by Arqus Alliance partner universities.
Tomasz Wysłobocki from the Institute of Romance Studies, who is active within Arqus as part of Package 11, spoke about the Polish as a Foreign Language course for Arqus Alliance partner universities organised at our university, as well as about Arqus Cafee, or Language Cafés, which enable students to learn foreign languages. He encouraged philologists to cooperate within Arqus.
The next UWr information meeting about Arqus will take place on 29 November in an online form on Teams and will be dedicated to the Faculty of Historical and Pedagogical Sciences.
