Wrocław becomes the world capital of probability theory

The 44th Stochastic Processes and their Applications (SPA) conference — the world’s largest academic event dedicated to stochastic processes and their applications, one of the key areas of modern mathematics — is drawing to a close in Wrocław.

The conference is held regularly under the auspices of the Bernoulli Society for Mathematical Statistics and Probability, operating within the framework of the International Statistical Institute (ISI). Following previous editions in Evanston, Wuhan, and Lisbon, Wrocław has become the global centre of probability theory in 2025.

The event is co-organised by the Faculty of Mathematics at Wrocław University of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Wrocław. It is held under the honorary patronage of the Rectors of both universities as well as the Mayor of Wrocław. The organisers have also received financial support from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education as part of the Excellent Science II programme. Over 400 researchers from around the world are taking part in the conference.

The programme includes 11 plenary lectures (featuring, among others, Giuseppe Cannizzaro, Benoît Collins, Florence Merlevède, Ron Peled, and Cristina Toninelli), 80 thematic sessions, and more than 260 presented papers.
