Wrocław even closer to the sea
It is all thanks to the students and researchers from the University of Wrocław who, during the “Rejs Roku 2025” [“Voyage of the Year 2025”] Gala at Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre, alongside the crew of Generał Zaruski, received a prestigious award on 6 March in the category of „marine education and the promotion of sea sailing”.
The crew of the Generał Zaruski, specifically the members of the GeoArcticExpedition2025, were honored by the Jury of the “Rejs Roku – Srebrny Sekstant” [“Voyage of the Year – Silver Sextant”] Honorary Awards for the „Generał Zaruski 2025” project – “an innovative educational, promotional research program implemented during the sailing ship’s journey to Spitsbergen”.
The Jury, which deliberated at the end of December 2025 in Gdynia, faced a difficult decision and, although they decided not to grant a grand prize, they awarded several equivalent honors, including in the category of „maritime education and the promotion of sea sailing.” Consequently, the title was awarded to the geologists and the team from Generał Zaruski.
The award-winning research voyage was organized by the Institute of Geological Sciences at the University of Wrocław to commemorate its 80th anniversary, with the route leading to Spitsbergen.
Dr Tomasz Rożek from “Nauka. To lubię” also participated in the expedition. The voyage took place under the patronage of the Rector of Uwr, Prof. Robert Olkiewicz. Media patronage was provided by the Polish Radio, Program 1.
