About the band:
Song Laboratory – Laboratorium Pieśni (world/etno/spiritual/medicine/mystic folk music) is a women’s song group, founded in 2013. The band sings and arranges traditional polyphonic songs: Ukrainian, Bulgarian Belarusian, Serbian, Albanian, Bosnian, Polish, as well as Georgian, Scandinavian, Occitan and many others. They perform the Songs of the World a capella as well as accompanied by shaman drums and other ethnic instruments (shruti box, bells, flutes, kalimbas, bowls and gongs), bringing a new arrangement to traditional songs, a space for voice improvisations, inspired by the sounds of nature, often filled with intuition, femininity and the wild.
The song material goes through a kind of journey: the songs are usually brought from different regions of Poland, Europe and the World by the members of the band. Next, they are developed in a workshop and rehearsal process to finally be revealed in a new version – traditional or enriched, arranged.
Successes and Projects:
The band took part in projects by valued Polish musicians, including the recording of music composed by Łukasz L.U.C Rostkowski for the painted film “Peasants” – a Polish candidate for an Oscar, which was awarded the Fryderyk prize in 2024; in the recordings for the music for the upcoming music album “Pieśni Współczesne. Tom II” by Miuosh x Zespół „Śląsk”; in the „Czarna Polana” project with Kayah and the composed Atanas Valkov; and in the concerts and recordings of “Good L.U.C.K” by the artist L.U.C.
The albums of Song Laboratory were nominated for the Fryderyk prize in the category of “Album of the Year – Music of the World” “Rasti” (2020) and „Hé oyáte” (2024) albums. The band is a laureate of the FAMA 2014 festival, where it was awarded the TRYTON PRIZE for the Biggest Festival Personality.
