Open lecture at the Institute of Art History

Date:

18 March 2024, 16:45 - 19:00

The Institute of Art History would like to invite you to an open lecture titled: “Positionings by and in relation to: practising feminisms with art research. De-and anti-colonial methods of engagement” by dr Basia Śliwińska (Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, Instituto de História da Arte), which will take place on March 18, 2024, at 4:45 pm in the premises of the Institute of Art History at ul. Szewska 36 in room 309.

“Since graduating from the Institute of Art History in 2005, I have been reflecting on my training in the traditions of art history, and as a feminist scholar, I am now seeking to expand what an art historian should be and do. In this lecture, I propose to reflect with the audience on notions of positionalism, situated knowledge, and an ethic of care, and to consider the ways in which feminist politics have influenced my research practice. This will be discussed through a series of case studies that I have worked with to articulate the interface between art, activism, and human rights.”
