The Institute of Geological Sciences of the University of Wrocław has the pleasure to invite everyone to an open lecture on “Minecraft Geology” by dr Elżbieta Słodczyk, which will take place on 18 November 2023 (Saturday) at 10:00 in room 220 of the institute. The lecture will take place onsite and online.
Information about the lecture:
To a greater or lesser extent – yet everyone has an interaction with games. Some play board games, while others prefer electronic or outdoor versions. And just as there are many types of games, there will be many reasons to reach for them and get involved. The desire to have fun is a really good motive but often it goes hand in hand with developing one’s knowledge and various skills. Frequently, difficult concepts and issues presented during games are assimilated imperceptibly, somewhat as a side-effect of having fun. Using such a mechanism, dr Elżbieta Słodczyk, would like to present the meaning, origins, and correlations of geological terms used in the popular game Minecraft. The searching for and extracting raw materials in the game refers to their actual occurrence on Earth. Therefore, if you want to find out, among other things, how and where real diamonds are formed, what emerald is, or if you want to see real obsidian – we invite you to a lecture “Geology of Minecraft”, which will be held on 18 November 2023 at 10.00 a.m. in room 220 of the Institute of Geological Sciences UWr. (Pl. M. Borna 9). If you prefer to stay in the virtual world, you are also welcome to attend the meeting by clicking on the link.
