Lecture„Muchomorek opowiada o żwirku – czyli podstawy rozpoznawania skał osadowych” by mgr Małgorzata Nowak and dr Elżbieta Słodczyk
will be held at the UWr Institute of Geological Sciences on Saturday 11 May 2024, at 10 am and online at the link.
‘The closest part of our planet to us, the Earth’s crust, is made up of magmatic, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. During Saturday’s lecture, we will look particularly at the latter group – sedimentary rocks. Although they make up only 8% of the Earth’s crust, they cover as much as ¾ of the land surface! Among the sedimentary rocks, crumb rocks, or our eponymous ‘grits’, form a distinct group. In this lecture, we will learn how crumb rocks are formed, how to distinguish them from other types of rock and how they differ from one another.’
