Translators’ decisions – gamers’ experience

The lecture focuses on two methodological perspectives in game translation research. Firstly, I will talk about product-oriented research – the localised game. This will be exemplified by an analysis of ‘language on screen’, i.e. linguistic expressions represented visually in the game world. Secondly, I will consider the perspective of the reception of the localised game – parameters such as understanding the storyline, cognitive effort, satisfaction or imersion. In presenting the results of the conducted work, I will address methodological issues related to product-oriented and audience-oriented research. My starting point will be the thesis that translational research that puts the focus on gamers is particularly underdeveloped at the moment. It is therefore worth asking why this is the case and the prospects for the development of such research.
