Young Explorers’ Workshop at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science

On 11 October 2025, the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science hosted the Young Explorers’ Workshops. Participants – secondary school students from Lower Silesia – had the opportunity to attend a lecture by dr Piotr Dyszewski entitled “Sztuczki, gierki i teoria Ramseya”. Among other things, they discovered why the locations of certain well-known supermarket branches form mysterious equilateral triangles.

After the break, the students took part in two workshops, during which they searched for winning strategies in combinatorial games and used ciphers to rescue Alice from the Rabbit Hole.

The workshops followed up on the Lower Silesian Young Explorers’ Congress, held at the same faculty in September. That event attracted over 150 participants from nearly 30 secondary schools across Lower Silesia and neighbouring regions. Students attended three lectures – one each on mathematics, computer science, and artificial intelligence – and actively participated in workshops, a city game, and an evening of board games and social activities.

Both the workshops and the congress were part of a project funded by the Minister of National Education under the “Explorers” programme.

The next workshops will take place on 29 November.
