University of Wrocław’s psychology is the best in Poland according to THE WUR by Subject rankings

In this year’s edition of Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject, which assesses universities based on particular subjects, the Institute of Psychology of the University of Wrocław has earned a high spot in the ranking once again. Reaching the TOP – 300 last year, it has advanced to the list of 201-205 best psychology programs in the world, earning first place in Poland in the process.

University of Warsaw’s psychology has earned second place in Poland (making the list of 251-300 best psychology programs in the world), with the SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities earning third place (301-400 best).

Other subjects from our university have also found their place in the rankings. Arts&Humanities have advanced to the group of 401-500 best universities in the world, giving us the third best place in the country (ex aequo with Jagiellonian University and Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń). In the very broadly defined field, only the University of Warsaw and Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań managed to overtake us in the rankings (ex aequo in the group of 301-400).

When it comes to Computer Science and Social Sciences, the University of Wrocław has been ranked in the group of 801+ best, and Life Sciences together with Physical Sciences in the group of 801-1000 best universities in the world.

Times Higher Education World University Rankings is one of the most renowned rankings of higher education, which assesses 2000 universities in 11 subjects all over the world. Factors which were considered in the ranking of subjects are the same as in the general Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023, published in early October, but the methodology has been adapted to individual fields of study. They were judged in five of their core missions: teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income (knowledge transfer to the industry). Each mission carries a particular weighted percentage, varying between fields, which influences the general score.

University of Wrocław’s psychology earned the most points, 85, for citations.

The ranking institution gets the data needed for assembling the ranking from multiple sources: questionnaires filled out by universities, Scopus bibliographic database (publications and citations) and reputation surveys of individual fields among researchers from all over the world, which are conducted by Times Higher Education.
