The UWr competition for the best thesis in mathematics and computer science

Prizes are awarded in four categories – bachelor’s theses in mathematics, master’s theses in mathematics, bachelor’s or engineering theses in computer science and master’s theses in computer science. This year, the total prize pool for the competition is PLN 19 500.

The best master’s theses have already been selected by the competition committee (computer science, mathematics), the best bachelor’s theses and engineering theses will be chosen during the final. The topics of the theses are very broad – from advanced issues in theoretical mathematics, databases, computer vision, programming languages or algorithmics, through medical data analysis, management of surplus energy from photovoltaic installations, optimisation of transit pricing, automatic simplification of texts in Polish and detection of hate speech, to porting an operating system to RISC-V architecture. Some of the award-winning theses have already received recognition in, among others, the engineering thesis competition under the auspices of the Polish section of the IEEE, some will be published, and Jarosław Kwietnia’s winning master’s thesis was presented at the world’s leading scientific conference on databases, ACM SIGMOD/PODS 2022.
